Dogs with a double coat - like Huskies, Malamutes, Golden Retrievers, Samoyeds and Pomeranians - need to be stripped out (loose hair removed) so they don't over heat in the warmer months.

We offer this service for dogs with double coats who tend to shed a lot of hair. We humans shed hair just as these dogs do (though not in such enormous volumes)! This is the ‘dead’ hair that has, or is ready to, detach from the scalp/skin.

We use the ProGroom shampoo and conditioner made specifically to help the hair loosen from the skin. After thoroughly wetting all of the dog’s coat, we firstly massage the shampoo through the hair to the skin. The second step of this process is to use our high velocity dryer to work the shampoo through to the skin whilst also blowing out the dead hair – it’s just like being in the middle of a ‘fur-snow-storm’! After the shampoo is rinsed out thoroughly, we follow the same procedure with the conditioner, finishing off with a spray that further assists any more hair to come loose.

We then dry the dog in its crate, until the groomer is ready to finish off the groom. Then the dog is taken out to our purposely-built de-shed room for a final blowout and brush, nail trim and finally a spritz with some perfume.

For a big dog, such as a Newfoundland, German Shepherd or Golden Retriever, the initial shampoo/condition/blowout process could take as long as two hours – we bathers/groomers are certainly a fit crew 😊
